Ellis, S., & Sloan, M. (2006). Spirit of The Wolf. New York: Parragon Publishing.
This book offers a glimpse into the private life of the wolf. The book starts off by explaining the spirit of the wolf explaining some of the most misunderstood traits of the wolf. How did the wolf and their children from stories and other fables that we heard. This book looks at the likelihood of being attacked by a wolf and the fact that wolves are some of the most respected animals by zoololigists. Field studies, especially those conducted in Yellowstone National Park, have shown the importance of the wolf as a key species in the ecosystem – yet the wolf still remains a maligned, feared, and misunderstood predator ( Ellis & Sloan, 2006). The book examines the history of the wolf and the connection Native Americans had with the wolf and the symbolism the wolf represented. The life and habitat is also noted in this book. Their mating tendencies as well as pack order are also noted.

This article goes into great detail about the wolf’s howl. It explains in detail the greatness of the howl and what it means to the pack. The center of a wolf’s universe is its pack, and howling is the glue that keeps the pack together (Harrington, 2000). It is explained that depending on the type of howl and the tone, the howl can be an expression of feeling from the wolf or a communication to other wolves. It is also mentioned that lower ranking wolves can be punished for joining in on a howl from a higher ranking wolf. Howls can be used for a mating call or to scare of enemies that may be near by.

Menatory, A. (2005). The art of being a Wolf. New York: Barnes & Noble Books
This book examines how a wolf lives and their behavioral traits. Wolves are extremely discreet animals that know how to integrate themselves into the environment in which they live (Menatory, 2005). The physical characteristics and attributes of the wolf are explained as well as how their physical properties allow them to adapt to their environment. Psychological adult wolves use imprinting on wolf cubs. This is a way of training and raising the pups allowing them to adapt and overcome obstacles as they grow. The pack life is explained and how closely the wolf relates to humans in the sense of hierarchical social organization developed both by man and by wolf. Wolves are by far the animal closet to man (2005).
