The article “Mental Health of Foster Children” by Adries Caroline, examines the numerous mental health conditions experienced by children of all ages who are placed in Foster Homes. It identifies several factors that play a role in why children develop these conditions before entering foster care and how they continue to develop throughout the life of the child. An emphasis is put on understanding how prior maltreatment from biological parents and adopted parents, as well as the amount of replacements can have a major impact on a foster child’s behavior. The author elaborates on this in order to justify how children placed in foster care tend to be more at risk of having or obtaining a mental health disorder and how lack of affection and attention can increase this.
This article was published in 2012 by the Child welfare League of America whose purpose is to increase others knowledge about “all child-family welfare and related services.” The article discuss the mental health of children before and after they are placed in foster care, and therefore it is essential to discuss that foster children obtain these disorders from multiple factors and also how and why they tend to affect many parts of their life which this article has a focus on. This article is essential to my paper because it focuses on where these mental health problems arise from and also the multiple different mental health issues different children from different backgrounds of abuse or neglect experience. The article also address the role biological parents, play on the foster child’s well-being during and after they are placed in a home.

In the article “Effects of Therapeutic Interventions for Foster Children on Behavioral Problems, Caregiver Attachment, and Stress Regulatory Neural Systems” Dozier and Bruce do not believe it is the things that have happened to foster children that cause them to obtain mental disorders, however the stress of what has happened to them and all of the backlashes from it. They discuss that everyone experiences hardships, however when your difficulties began to impact your life so tremendously that is causes unwanted and unhealthy stress that is when foster children begin to develop mental health disorders, and poor social and academic relationships. Bruce suggest that the problems foster children face when living with their biological parents causes stress, however it is not until social services get involved and the child is placed in foster care that they begin to develop mental disorders. This article focuses on how interventions and therapy before placing a child into a new “out of home placement” can possible reduce a number of these mental, social and emotional problems foster children face after leaving one home and going into another.
Dozier graduated from the University of Delaware with a PH. D, and Bruce graduated from Oregon Social learning Center, these well-educated researchers take on a different perspective then my other resources regarding mental health risk that foster children endure. They broadcast the idea that tackling the cause of their stress, by therapy or intervention can help reduce behavioral problems of foster children once they are placed in a new foster home or foster care. They offer what they believe to be the best solution for reducing these mental health disorders which I believe is essential to the point I am trying to prove in my paper. For my paper, I do not only want to inform readers of the risk of obtaining a metal disorders foster children face,
