…Skyfall! Well, it should have.
From the first smoky note of a theme song sung by Adele, it was clear to me ‘Skyfall’ would be both classic and captivating. The fusion of heart-pounding espionage, riveting passion and juicy betrayal gripped me as I perched on the edge of my seat, hungry for the plot to unfold. James Bond is portrayed charmingly, inspirationally and accurately by Daniel Craig with a flawed, somewhat human character.
Director, Sam Mendes’ thrilling new chapter in the 007 experience shows his interpretation of Bond (as none other has) with this touch of humanity; which adds a fascinating sense of realism to the film. It really makes you feel like you can relate to the action. Mendes has supplied a whole new dimension with his refreshing taste and judgement; both paramount elements in the successful directing of a film.
From the opening action in Istanbul to the final siege shootout in the Scottish highlands, this film simultaneously conveys the melancholy of loss, mortality and will allow you to learn more about a truly thrilling character; about another chapter in his story (the 23rd to be precise) - a story that has entertained many for years and has truly stood the test of time. From references to past 007 films to unexpected twists and top-grade action, Mendes’ new outlook on this film feels like a well-wrapped gift for any Bond fan, like me.
To those critics who say it is ‘uninspired’, ‘disappointing’ and a ‘waste of time’; you are assumedly moronic. Although wrong is a state of absolute, you could not be more wrong. It is a fully inspired, thrilling use of time. Writers John
