After analyzing the different counties of Connecticut we discovered a lot of facts. One being, the highest median income is Fairfield, with 77, 031, followed by Middlesex with 60, 855. The lowest median income is Windham with 46,514. Also we learned that Fairfield is the highest population with 895,030, followed by Hartford with 877,312. The lowest population is Windham with 117,345. Having the best high school graduates is Tolland with 92.20%, the lowest being Windham with 84.50%. The highest college graduates are Fairfield with 43.60% and the lowest being Windham with 21.30%. There is really no pattern at all because all the percentages seem to be different all through out the counties of Connecticut. What we did notice was that some percentages high or low is do to the specific areas of location. For example, Fairfield has the most college graduates, due to well-known colleges in the area. (When we clicked the link for the West Hartford data, the web page was unknown.)
2. We think they include data on Wal-Mart, Neiman-Marcus, Cracker Barrel, Whole foods and gun stores because each one of those stores attract different types of people. Wal-Mart and Cracker Barrel tend to attract the less sophisticated and more mainstream people. While Neiman-Marcus and Whole foods are more for the upper class and more sophisticated people. By showing the locations of the different types of stores that attract different groups of people, it’s easier to get a better understanding of our culture. This is because if there are many locations of one store, then that means that store appeals to the majority of America. For example, there are a lot of Wal-Mart’s in the U.S proving that most people in America are more mainstream. While there are not a lot of Whole Foods and Neiman-Marcus stores, proving that there are not a lot of people in the U.S that are upper class. Observing from the map there are gun locations in every state, showing that there are a lot of people that own guns. I think this is a reasonable example because if the majority of stores are walmart that means a lot of people shop there and that shows a lot about our nation as a whole.
3. The patterns we see between Wal-Mart and Neiman Marcus are that Wal-Mart branches out in more of the rural areas while Neiman Marcus is limited to where the cities and urban places are. There are very few Cracker Barrels in the west coast while there are more in the east coast; it sort of follows the same patterns as Wal-Mart locations but excluding the west coast. Whole foods locations are more in all the boomtowns in the east or west coast; it sort of follows the same pattern as Neiman- Marcus. The midwest and Alaska have the highest concentration of guns per hundred k. Cities have less a focus of guns per hundred k while rural areas have more of a focus per hundred k. But the total number of gun stores there is, has a higher amount in urban areas than in rural areas. In other words rural areas have more guns per hundred k, but if you're looking at the total amount of gun stores, urban has more. We think this is because in rural areas the population is smaller than in urban areas, so that affects the amount of stores. These patterns might say that rural areas are more traditionally based; people are more interested in guns, Cracker Barrels and Wal-Mart’s. While on the coasts and urban areas are less traditionally focused.
4. The regions where we see the highest percentage of homes earning over $200K are the area of the northeast coastline; state regions towards the eastside. Also, on the west coast, mainly California has high percentage. We think this is due to the supply and demand of specific areas. For example, during the summer, people tend to purchase and live in houses by the shoreline, east or west coast, forming more demand for houses by the water.
