You probably know that Christmas is celebrated on December 25. In the United States, families distribute gifts that Santa Claus left under the Christmas tree on Christmas morning. Many attend church services on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning, and later gather for Christmas dinner with extended family. Christmas is the observance of Jesus’ humble birth to a virgin in a stable in Bethlehem. The holiday also celebrates the events surrounding his birth, such as an angel’s appearance to shepherds, telling them to visit the newborn king.
During Christmas we gather with extended families and friends. Sometimes these gathering we look forward to other we don’t because some families are dysfunctional. The following ad portrays a family Christmas dinner. I believe that this advertisement does share similarities with Rockwell’s painting. The similarities that are shared between these ads are: they portray a happy family gathering. In both ads family seems united and looks like they enjoy their time together. In the advertisement that I came across, the family idealizes how the family “should” be. Meaning, family is together, happy, enjoy their time together, make time for each other even if its once a year.
On the other hand, I also came across an ad of a mom and a child opening Christmas presents. To my understanding this would be a single mom with her child. The fact that a father is not present in this picture is what draws me to that conclusion. I believe this is an great ad because it give single mother hope to looking forward to celebrating Christmas even though they are not living
