As Americans, it is our duty to abide by the rules of the United States. I know many people are wondering “How do we do that?” Well basic duties are things that the people must do by law; therefore we must obey the law, pay taxes, defend the nation and serve on a jury. Responsibilities are something people should do, meaning we should know what the government is doing, vote, respect the rights of others as well as know our rights so we could protect and use them. Well personally, citizenship means giving your loyalty to a country in return that they can reward you with the obligations of being a citizen. Being an American, to me, means that you are a part of nation where you are free to be an individual. Personally, I plan on exercising my freedoms though education, expression and exceptionalism.
It is important for the citizens to be informed and educated because our democratic government would not be able to function successfully without informed voters. There are many ways to get information, for example, if you have access to a computer you can search your area of interest. However, everything on the Internet is not true; ways to make sure your source is credible is by going to the “About Us” link on the home page, sometimes it can reveal the author. Also before you read the article you could see if it has a work cited page to say where the author got the information, stay away from all Wiki sites because those can be modified be anyone who has visited the sites.
