Final Paper Albert Einstein states, “I do not know how the third world war will be fought, but I can tell you what they will use in fourth…rocks.” Understanding the bloody nature of humans, he predicted that nuclear weapons and violence would get so bad that it will send civilization back thousands of years. This is a result of the terrors of war, and how unfortunate it is that humans are at war with each other. E.O Wilson and John Horgan both presented arguments on their opinions of “Why Humans Wage War.” After the evaluation of Wilson and Horgan’s arguments, it became clear that Wilson has constructed the strongest argument based on his reasons and evidence presented in his claim. Edward O. Wilson presented claims to ascertain whether or not sociobiology holds any value to why war is not inescapable. He strongly argues that warfare in humans is innate, and that humans display hostility towards people outside of their group to further create a loyalty amongst their own group. His look on war is that humans are naturally prone to war, because of the natural aggressive response that they express. His example of the scorpion stinging the frog, even after agreeing not too because it was “his nature”, exemplifies how humans nature is violence, and that is what humans will do. Wilson also argues how religions, such as Buddhism, have tolerated war, showing that nonlethal violence is inevitable. Furthermore, humans have a genetic predisposition to violence and selfishness, which all come from the theory of survival of the fittest, and those who look out for themselves will live the longest, states Wilson. He compares humans to chimpanzees; in that both are constantly competing for status and both use Sun Tzu’s war tactics on their confrontations.
