ABSTRACT:
Cooling capacity of an air conditioned room is increased due to the high intensity solar radiation falling on the entire surface of the building walls. Heat is accumulated on the building walls due to the property of thermal mass of building. This accumulated heat could be reduced by installing set of copper tubes over the outer surface of the wall circulated with water. The accumulated heat on the wall is extracted by the water in the copper tubes. An air conditioned test room is made by constructing a wall of 1m × 0.25m × 1m brick and mortar and an insulated box of 1m × 1m × 1m is attached behind the wall. Copper tubes are attached over the outer surface of the wall to extract the heat from the heat accumulated in the wall. The water after extracting the heat is stored in a tank.

Heat gained by the air inside the room: Amount of heat energy gained by the room is given by Q=mCp(Δt) …… (2) where, Q = heat capacity (J) m = mass of air in the room = volume of the room × density of air Cp = specific heat capacity of air = 1.005 KJ/kg℃ Δt = Change in temperature (℃)
The amount of heat gained inside the room is calculated for different reading with and without copper tubes is calculated and tabulated.
