Guillaume Ansart, in his review of Raynal and Diderot’s original work, describes the two French philosophes as taking Baron de Montesquieu’s The Spirit of the Laws, described as works to argue relationships, society, tradition and social institutions. Raynal’s small contributions and Diderot’s original work was derived of Montesquieu and further contributed to the compilation of Histoire des deux Indes. The author explains how transportation expansion helped play a role in changing the mode of production that began to bring out the use of machines in factories to produce goods. Industrialism then began to mainstream in textile mills.
