Acoustics

Home recording. Hard disk recording 1980’s
Studios are not what they used to be. Using smaller spaces, which are not as well treated as if to record in another proper recording studio.
Software can now fix pretty much anything.

Room modes – Bass builds up in the corner of the room/ Low frequency wavelengths are incredibly long, small rooms cannot recreate these. Parallel walls are bad in small rooms.

Sound created inside untreated rooms would commonly sound bad as well outside as well/Falsely emphasises. The recordings going to be unbalanced. Not enough bass. Sound created inside untreated rooms would commonly sound bad as well outside as well

Low frequency wavelengths are incredibly long, small rooms cannot recreate these/Shape of wave determines its tone
Hard and reflective boundary it echo’s
It also matters where you stand in a room.

Sound Absorption
Isolation – You are not only isolating yourself from the outside world but also isolating the outside world to you.
Sound Absorption
Isolation from other sound. Sound isolation = sound proofing.
Absorption means absorbing the sound wave, which means the breaking of sound waves as the disperse

Diffusion means resending sound.

Frequency domain -

Time domain. How quickly reflections come back to you

Studio Environment

Create a very consistent a very low frequency response.

Room isolated from outside.

Room arrangement – Symmetry in a control room is incredibly important to get a good balance and are 100% sure.

How sound behaves in the studio. Sound should not be dead with no reverberal qualities. You want different set of rooms, which provide different acoustic treatments / Live and Dead end Room design (This means that different sections of the room will have different acoustic qualities.

Back part of the room diffuser’s

Decupling to stop sound

Floating floor so floor isn’t connected/ non parallel
