1. internal controls- refers to those steps the business itself takes to protect cash and other assets 2. external controls- measures and procedures provided outside the business to protect cash and other assets 3. checking account- allows a person or business to deposit cash in a bank and to write checks against the account balance 4. check- written order from a depositor telling the bank to pay a stated amount of cash to the person or business named on the check 5. depositor- a person or business that has cash on deposit in a bank 6. signature card- the signature of a person(s) authorized to write checks on the account 7. deposit slip- a bank form, listing the cash and check to be deposited 8. endorsement- authorized signature written or stamped on the back of a check representing a promise to pay 9. restrictive endorsement- limits, or restricts how a check may be handled 10. payee- person or business to whom a check is written 11. drawer- a person who signs the check 12. drawee- the bank on which the check is written 13. voiding a check- writing the word void in large letters across the front of a check ( in ink ) 14. bank statement -itemized record of the all the transactions in a depositor's account over a given period, usually a month 15. canceled checks- a statement to a depositor, it may return the checks paid by the bank and deducted from the depositor's account 16. reconciling the bank statement-
