Accounting in the world today raises many questions in the world today such as: What is accounting, what skills do you need to obtain this career, and what kind of growth is there in this field? If one is looking for a serious career and is good at math this could be the right choice. Obtaining an accounting degree can be the best decision one ever makes for their life!

To begin, the main question one may ask about any career is what is it? Accounting is the internal function for recording and reporting financial information. (Hearst Newspapers, 2013) Typically, an accountant would control a business’ financial system. They provide advice on a daily basis to managers. An accountant can be classified in one of three fields: public, private, or government. Any accountant can use the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), which have two kinds of features: cash or accrual accounting. (Hearst Newspapers, 2013)

Secondly, one may wonder what skills they need to obtain this career. Management, computer, and math skills are the most needed. Other skills include, but are not limited to: communication, analytical, ability to synthesize, initiative, creativity, people, and sales. (UNC kenan-flagler business school 2011) Another factor one may want to consider would be that most employers prefer that their accountant have at least two years of experience.

Lastly, what kind of growth is there in accounting? is probably asked most frequently. With a constant growing economy this field is also constantly growing. The more businesses that open, the more accountants are needed. The growth in software also leads to growth in this career due to the need of people who understand them.
