ABSTRACT
Recently there has been a concern from EHL company, regarding the performance of their products and services and inability to hire, train and redeem good quality skilled mechanics for the company which prompted the company to look into alternatives and look into the matter in depth. This coincided with a team of three dedicated students from WITT’s Applied management course was embarking on a applied management project to a research based project on. The team was hired by the company to look into the matter and do an in depth research to find out the crux of the issue and how it will be resolved so the company can get over this problem. This research has looked into the problem and has raised that question to if there is a shortage of diesel and petrol mechanics in New Plymouth. The team has done the research on the basis of primary and secondary data collected from a number of sources ranging from questionnaire designed for different industry professional to their company managers and also including the recruitment agencies. All the relevant data was complied, findings were discussed, ethical issues and considerations were addressed and conclusions were reached that there was a shortage of good quality mechanics in the industry and the companies needed to make an awareness of this to the automation industry . Educational organizations could play a vital role in educating and training the right people for the right job and recruitment system should be enhanced in order to find the right match.
