Abraham Harold Maslow Theorist 1908-1970
Abraham Maslow was a practioner in humanistic psychology at various colleges in New York and Wisconsin. Born in 1908 he was one of Sigmund Freud’s early colleagues.
He stressed the importance of focusing on the positive qualities in people as opposed to treating them as a bag of symptoms.
Maslow wanted to understand what motives people. He believed that people possess as set of motivation systems unrelated to the rewards or unconscious desires.
In 1943 he published a paper a theory of human motivation.
Maslow long believed that leadership should be non-intervening.

Abraham Maslow states that people are motivated to achieve certain needs when one need is fulfilled an individual seeks to fulfil their next need.
The earliest and most widespread version of Maslow’s (1943-1954) hierarchy of needs includes 5 motivational needs often depicted as hieratical levels within a pyramid

The first stage is made up of our basic needs for bodily function such as eating, drinking, and going to the toilet.
The next stage is made up of individuals feeling safe and secures knowing the basic needs are satisfied.
The next stage is based on social recognition, status and respect.
The final stage is self-actualization is desire for self-fulfilment and doing the thing you were put on this planet to do.
