A murder can face up to life in prison in almost all circumstances. Many are against this highly controversial subject but unfortunately some people still agree with it. What is it some may ask? This legalized form of murder is abortion. Pro-choice individuals will argue that “most people who are against abortion will never even become pregnant” (Amplifyyourvoice.org). Pro-life people believe that the Lord places children in peoples lives for a reason that, often times, only he knows. As a teenager it seems that often times pregnancy is publicized for all the positive effects and never the negative and challenging effects a child can cause in their life. On top of that schools no longer seem to teach abstinence they are often more focused on “safe sex” instead of no sex. This can often lead teens to think that as long as they use a condom they are protected against an unplanned pregnancy. According to Sue Alford from Advocates for youth, “only two of every 100 couples who use condoms consistently and correctly will experience an unintended pregnancy” but who is to say that these teens are using condoms correctly? (Alford) How about this in 2011, 73,200 women obtained abortions in Texas alone and 533,200 teen girls became pregnant…14% resulted in induced abortions. That means the 16.9 per 1000 teen girls who become pregnant will have an abortion (guttmacher.org). Texas is just one of 50 states can you imagine the number of abortions in the other 49? It is hard to imagine walking into a clinic 24 hours before your “operation”, as the state calls them, is preformed and have an ultrasound done, then very graphically have the nurse explain to you how the innocent baby you created is going to die “At current rates one in 3 women will have had an abortion by the time they are 45” (guttmacher.org) Many pro-life individuals are often asked what if a girl is raped? Statistics show that rape and incest are cited for less than one percent of all abortions (guttmacher.org). In 2011 Texas was ranked fourth in total abortion rates among the United States! Often times people hear of girls getting abortions because they can not afford a child, or because they are not ready to support a family, or even because they just don’t want anything to do with children yet this is truly heart breaking because it is absolutely free to place a child up for adoption! A woman placing her child up for adoption will have to make no payments or even have to worry about dealing with that child ever again in their life. An abortion on the other hand, cost around $300 in Texas! That is a lot of money to pay to kill an innocent defenseless child. There are families all over the United States that are unable to get pregnant but are looking to expand their family. It was cause less grief and personal stress to place the child into a loving home and allowing them to live their life and grow up with endless possibilities than to have the thought in the back of my mind that I killed an innocent child. Another law on abortions is that all abortions are required to take place before the 20 week mark. 1.5 percent of the 1.21 million abortions each year, or about 18,000, occur later than 20 weeks after conception, and many of these involve medical emergencies, said Ms. Nash of the Guttmacher Institute. All of these are illegal in Texas. Still if it is illegal for an abortion to occur after 20 weeks why are 18,000 are still being performed? 75 people were
