The Argument Against Abortion Abortion is claimed to be “a safe and legal way to end pregnancy” (Planned Parenthood.) However, abortion is defined, by Charles Coppens, as “the loss of a fetal life.” It is difficult to believe that the loss of a life is safe or legal. In fact, abortion is one of the horrid atrocities that continuously and frequently occurs in our world today, killing more and more unborn babies as time goes by. It should be illegal because it causes psychological and physical damage to the mother and her spouse, is immoral, and takes away the unborn child’s human rights. Losing a child, through miscarriage or delivery complications, is always a devastating occurrence for the parents to be. Therefore, it is baffling that some do not realize how abortion can be just as devastating. The suicide rate is 6 times higher for women who have had abortions as compared to women who have delivered their babies. It was also found that many husbands of women who have had abortions also dealt with psychological problems. In 1998, the Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology published a study of men who are married to women that have had abortions and reported that 51.6% felt regret, 45.2% felt sadness, and 25.8% experience depression. Aside from the psychological damage, there are a number of detrimental physical effects that are results of abortion. To name a few effects: women with a history of just one abortion face a 2.3 times higher risk of having cervical cancer, compared to women with no history of abortion (Elliot Institute); abortion damages the uterus and increases the risk of abnormal placental development, and abortion increases the risk of numerous reproductive complications which can lead to handicap newborns in later pregnancies. Abortion is the killing of an unborn baby. In fact, it is murder which goes against the the Catholic teaching and fifth commandment, “Thou shall not kill.” If people truly believe that abortion is moral, then they must believe murder is too. However, everyone knows what an absurd statement that is. Murder is clearly immoral, which makes abortion immoral too. The Tribunal of the Holy Office has decreed that “it cannot be safely taught in Catholic schools that it is lawful to perform ... any surgical operation which is directly destructive of the life of the fetus or mother” (Coppens). It is also taught evil cannot be done to something if good will come out of it. Therefore, knowing a child is always good, this proves that abortion is evil. According to The Declaration of Independence, “All men are created equal, they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Abortion contradicts this statement because all people “have a fundamental right to life, which should must be protected” (ProCon.org). By a mother deciding to have an abortion, she is talking away the child’s right to life. It has been said that a child is not an individual human being until after birth, but at the moment of conception and embryonic child begins his or her distinct human life. As an embryo, children being self-evolution, which is defined as the evolution of one’s self. This definition proves that an embryo is a child that uses the womb to evolve and the placenta for nutrition until it is mature enough to live a separate life. On the contrary, many people argue that abortion should remain legal for a number of reasons. Each of these reasons, however, can be easily refuted using logic and facts. Many pro-choice people say that modern procedures are safe and about 47,000 women die yearly from unsafe abortions. Meanwhile, a larger number of unborn children are killed each year through abortion. They also argue that contraceptives are not always readily available (Procon.org); therefore, saying abortion is necessary. Nevertheless, there are ways to avoid unwanted pregnancies. Married couples can use natural family planning

Abortion is a very controversial subject that has been continually argued over for the past few years and probably many years to come. The main controversy is should abortion be legalized? First before we get into the many sides of abortion we must first define abortion. Abortion is the destruction of the fetus or unborn child while the child is still in the mother’s womb. This can be done by almost anyone from the mother herself to back alley abortions and even to abortions by clinics set up especially…

Against Abortion I would like to thank everyone in the NOW, National organization for women for having me speak today on the topic of abortions. I do believe that women should have a right to their own choice when it comes to their own decision. I also believe that women should be more responsible now days so that it doesn’t even have to come to the decision of thinking of having an abortion. According to David M. Fergusson, a professor of psychology, the most common surgical procedure for women…
Matt Riley English I Advanced Mrs. Romine 3/13/09 Abortion Have you ever heard anybody say they were going to “terminate their pregnancy?” Well I know I have, and at first I really didn’t think much of it. But to terminate a pregnancy is to kill your unborn child through abortion. Sounds a lot worse now, right? That baby is a person too, just like you and me, and not only is abortion a terrible thing for your body, but there are many other options that are better for the mother and the child. These…
Marcus coca Rodney Clayton Sociology Tuesday, Thursday 10:30 121614 There are many things I could have written about for this paper. I was originally going to write about how every house hold should have a firearm, but I have a stronger opinion on abortion. I know it is not original but I have stronger sense of what I'm talking about. While everybody is divided on this particular subject, I'm no exception. I guess people would label me prochoice, but I'm not overly fond of labels that forces you to choose one side over the…

Many people view the “American dream” as a vision that includes having a child or maybe even multiple children. While the size of your family should depend on the decision of a couple, sometimes women become pregnant unexpectedly which, in turn, could end in the choice of an abortion. Abortion is the term of pregnancy…
