Should legislation continue supporting the trimester system for abortion?
Right now in current government affairs, the three trimester of abortion is separated in three different levels of abortion. In the first trimester, the woman can have a choice between surgical abortions or an oral pill that terminates the pregnancy. The two medical procedures that are used in the first trimester are called Methotrexate (MTX) which is used during the first seven weeks and the other procedure is called mifepristone which is used in the first seven to nine weeks. The surgical procedure for the first trimester is called the suction aspiration which can be used between the six to twelfth week of gestation, it is also referred to as the suction curettage or the vacuum aspiration. During the second trimester the procedures get a little more intense and are not medication based procedures anymore. The second trimester consists of procedures such as Dilation & Curettage, this is used between the thirteenth to fifteenth week of gestation. Another procedure is Dilation & Evacuation which is used to terminate the baby between the fifteenth to the twenty-first week of gestation. The last procedure is Induction Abortion, which is a rarely performed surgical procedure where salt water, urea, or potassium chloride are injected into the amniotic sac. During the third trimester, the most difficult period in which to obtain an abortion, a procedure called Dilation is implemented. Pro-life people believe that a baby can have emotions and feelings while they’re in the stomach. When it comes to pro-choice there are two dichotomy ideologies. The first believe that babies do not have feeling and emotions while they’re in the mothers’ stomach while the second consists of mothers who simply cannot handle pregnancy, for whatever reasons. pro- life people believe in the right to prevent the killing of unborn children; they believe it is morally and ethically wrong and should be considered murder. After 8 weeks in the mothers’ womb, all major organs are formed in a fetus, hence solidifying my beliefs that any abortion after that period is considered murder.
In the first trimester the women have the choice to have medical or surgical procedures. The first procedure you can do is called mifepristone, this pill causes the uterine lining to thin and the pregnancy to detach and killing the baby by slowly suffocating it. The second procedure is called methotrexastopste and it’s given by injection or occasionally orally. This procedure stops the ongoing process of implantation of an early pregnancy. Both of these procedures take days and sometimes weeks for the process to complete. This procedure requires at least two visits, causes bleeding out of the vagina and the woman may see blood clots and pregnancy tissue. The third procedure is called vacuum aspiration which is where the cervix is opened up with tapered rods and a straw like tube which is attached to suction which is inserted into the uterus and the contents from the uterus are sucked through the vacuum. [This kills the baby immediately and tears its limbs apart to fit through the vacuum.]
In the second trimester only surgical procedures are allowed the first procedure is called dilation and curettage and most of the time it takes 30 minutes. It is usually done in a hospital but does not require an overnight stay. The doctor gives the woman a pain medication injection in the cervical area. Then the doctor scrapes the lining of the uterus to remove tissues and then the doctor inserts a vacuum into the vagina which breaks down the baby into smaller parts and sucked through the tube. Recovery Is very harsh because the woman experiences bleeding for at least a week and must wear a pad, they are also required to take pills to prevent infection. The woman may also experiences severe cramps and emotional reactions. The third procedure which is rarely performed because of how severe it is. Chemicals that
