What items and/or industries are already utilizing 3d printing?
Architecture
Construction/ industrial design
Automotive
Aerospace
Military
Engineering
Dental and medical industries
Biotech
Consumer products such as: fashion, footwear, jewelry, eyewear, even food
Possible items in the future that could utilize 3D printing?
Possibly the biggest beneficiary of 3D printing in the future could be the medical industry. There is already some work being done by 3D printers, but the things we could see in the future are amazing. Everything from human organs and bones to prosthetics unlike any we see today. Another thing that we could see utilize 3D printing would be the construction industry and we could even have 3D printers building entire building.
Problems associated with 3D printing?
So far one of the biggest problems has been in with firearms that are being made by 3D printers. It is mostly because anyone can share the file that makes them so anyone with a 3D printer essentially can make their own gun(s). it went so far that the Department of Homeland Security was quoted saying “significant advances in 3D printing capabilities, availability of free digital 3D printable files for firearms components, and difficulty regulating file sharing may present public safety risks from unqualified gun seekers who obtain or manufacture 3D printed guns, proposed legislation to ban 3D printing of weapons may deter, but cannot completely prevent their production.
