The success of a nation is dependent on the stability of not only its citizens but ultimately its government which is why thus far the United States has been able to successfully carry on as a democratic republic. The United States government is broken down into what is known as The Three Branches of Government. Each with separate and individual power and responsibility so that no branch has more power than the other two. The 3 branches are the legislative, executive and judicial branch. All 3 branches of government play a big role in how successful and how different the United States is compared to other counties.

Congress controls the Legislative Branch. Responsible for determining which behavior constitutes a violation thus create a law for violation that determines a punishment. They have the power to pass bills and borrow money on the credit of the United States. It can be vetoed by the President but vetoes can be over ruled with a two-thirds vote of both houses. Legislative Branch controls the federal budget and spending. They oversee the bills that want to be passes and investigate them and make the rules for the government to keep it in order. The Congress has the power to declare war, raise and support the military. The United States Constitution says under Article One, Section Eight, “Congress shall have the power to declare war”. They have sole power of impeachment and also the trails of impeachment that means they can remove federal and judicial officers from office for crimes against them. There were only 2 Presidents acquitted under impeachment, which were President Bill Clinton and President Andrew Jackson.

The President controls executive Branch. He is responsible for enforcing the legislative branch. Known as the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces. As I stated earlier he might veto bills passed by congress but the veto may be overridden by a two-thirds majority of both houses. The President makes executive agreements and signs treaties of all kinds. He also has the power to grant pardons for offenses against the United States except for cases of impeachment. The President has
