Renowned Artist of the 20th Century
Introduction The 20th Century bought about many changes in art, literature, music and other forms of art. During this century there were many additions made to the art concept. Art was driven by many variables such as transportation, technology and new inventions that were major contributors to the art world. The purpose of this paper is to look at the lives of five renowned artist of the 20th century and their contributions to 20th Century art.
Frank Frazetta Frank Frazetta is known worldwide for his influential fantasy and science fiction works. Frazetta was born February 9, 1928 in Brooklyn New York. At the age of eight, a teacher noticed the talent Frazetta had and encourages his parents to enroll him in the Brooklyn Academy of Fine Arts. Frazetta attended the school for eight years under the wings of Michelle Falanga. Falanga was a well known and award winning Italian fine artist, who opened up all the hidden talent Frazetta had. Falanga had hoped to send Frazetta to Europe to further his studies. Due to the sudden death of Falanga this never happened and the school closed a year later. Frazetta had to go to work at the age of sixteen. His career started with writing comic books, while declining offers from large comic companies like Walt Disney. Frazetta’s comics were of varying styles such as westerns, fantasy, mysteries. Histories and other contemporary themes. Some of his most notable works include Buck Rogers’s covers for Famous Funnies, Al Capp and Li’l Abner comic strips, and paintings for paperback editions of adventure books. Frazetta resides in Pennsylvania with his wife Ellie. The demand for Frazetta work is high, with incomplete pencil sketches selling for thousands of dollars.

Friz Freleng Isadore “Friz” Freleng was born August 21, 1906 in Kansas City Missouri. Freleng was a well known animator, cartoonist, director and producer. His most notable works include the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies, for Warner Brothers Studios. Freleng is responsible for the introduction of many popular cartoon characters such as Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Tweety Bird, Sylvester the cat, Yosemite Same and Speedy Gonzales. Freleng, began his career in animation at United Film Ad Service. Through his career at United Film Ad Service he met fellow animators Hugh Harman and Ub Iwerks. Iwerk’s friend Walt Disney moved to Hollywood in 1923, he offered his fellow animators to join, but Freleng decided to wait until he moved to California. Freleng worked for Schlesinger’s studio where he became Schlesinger’s top director. He introduced Porky Pig in the 1935 film “I Haven’t Got a Hat. The films reached notable fame for the being one of the earliest examples of characterization in a cartoon. Freleng went on to become the senior director at Warner’s Termite Terrace Studio. He is the most honored of the Warner Brothers studio directors with four Academy Awards.
Walker Evans Walker Evans was an American photographer who was well known for his work with the Farm Security Administration. His job was to document the effects of the Great Depression. Evans was born in Saint Louis, Missouri. He was part of a wealthy family and graduated from Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass. Evans realized that writing prose was not for him so he turned to photography. In 1933, Evans on assignment photographed the revolt in Cuba against

In 1938, Evans was a staff writer for Times Magazine, shortly after that he became editor at Fortune Magazine. The 20th century was a time period lasting from January 1, 1901 all the way through December 31, 2000. Commonly known as the modern era, this century was nothing less than contemporary in every aspect throughout the world.
