When I began Richland College many things were new to me such as new scheduling, new people, and new curriculum. What mainly sticks out to me that is different is I used to learn a distinct way and my ability to learn has changed over time. I remember when I was in High School I would remember key things for the test and this was my main way of passing courses. Most of the material were things we talked about in class and consistently reviewed until it was implemented in our brains. Now, it is a bit faster paced and is more based on you studying than simply just going to class. In Richland exams much of the stuff on the test was not said in class and is expected of you to know from outside studies. I view this method of teaching more advanced because it puts the students in a position where they must but the effort in order to succeed. Unlike in High School I felt I was being hand fed all the answers. My ENGL 1302 class has helped me develop in many ways. It has improved my critical thinking by reading articles and short stories that seemed complicated in diction. One article I Read was a short story called the “The Guest”. I enjoyed this story out of all the rest because it was challenging to read as well as interesting. I had to personally read it a couple times to understand and with teacher help I could see the deeper meaning in it. This course has also improved my style of writing due to teacher guidance on my essays’ and the structure of my essay. I used to
