Nineteen Eighty-Four “Victory Essay” In the novel “Nineteen Eighty-Four”, there are many different types of characters in the novel. They all have their different aspects that they give to the book and their different characters make them different from the other entire once in the book. In the novel there are two main characters; Julia and Winston, but what makes Julia different from Winston in the way of her behavior, motivations and goals? To start Julia’s behavior is different form of life and situations that she has experienced other then Winston’s in the ways that she is a person that is more decisive. She is a very controlling individual while Winston is more of a self-kind of guy; he normally keeps to him self and is shyer it comes to breaking the rules. She knows how to manipulate and make people think different things and be able to hid behind the different things that she does during the book like; brake the rules of thought crime, and sleeping with the inner party members without the whole party knowing. “Black market”, she said indifferently. “Actually I am that sort of girl, to look at. I am good at games. I was a troop leader in the spies.”” This quote show how much of a rebel she was then Winston’s when Julia commits these types of acts and crimes Winston would not even dear of even trying to attempt them so this shows how much more of a adventures person she is compare to how Winston really is more shy and timid. Julia’s motivations are way different then Winston’s. Winston is more motivated for what can happen if he can actually be able to break down the party. He is motivated in know what the true things are and have happened through out the whole party’s political existence and the really behind the whole control of what the political party makes them go through. “She enjoyed her work, which consisted chiefly in running and servicing a powerful but tricky eclectic motor, she had been a troop leader in the Spies and a branch secretary in the Youth League before joining the Junior Anti-Sex League. She had always borne an excellent character (an infallible mark of good reputation.” This clearly shows all of the devotion that she had towards the party so that they would not expect that she would be involved in any kind of suspicious of explicated type of activities that she should not be involved in or should be doing with other party members. While that is Winston’s motivations Julia’s motivations are different. Her motivation for the society that she is living in is that she needs to survive without being caught doing the different types of things she does like; steal, eat what she should not be eating, seeing what she should not be seeing, thinking, and having sex. But, as she starts being with Winston her ideas change so much that she starts believing in the same if not similar ideas that Winston has, she wants to join the Brother Hood (the underground society to overthrow the party) and she
