Read this syllabus. You are responsible for its content. I hate to make these rules, but some of you do your best to "bend" the rules at the expense of your colleagues, which I hate even more. I will listen to all (well, almost all) excuses with a sympathetic ear & even shed a crocodile tear or two. Do not lose this file.

CLASS TIMES: We meet M-Th from 8:00a to 12:15p. The operative time is 8:00a. We start class promptly at 8:00a. The second operative time is 12:15p. We do not sneak out of class before dismissed, unless Sensei says class is over. We might have a last minute quiz.

DATES: As college students, you are responsible for all relevant dates: quiz dates (see below), exam dates, assignment due dates, as well as various college-wide dates (e.g. drop). I will try to email reminders but can not guarantee my timing. If you “leave the world” but remain on my roster because you failed to complete paper work to drop the class, I will be forced to give you a grade based on completed work. You are also responsible for knowing changes that are made.

PREPARED for CLASS: You should bring your notebook, writing implements, and lab manual (appropriate lab exercise & worksheet) each day. You are responsible for bringing a copy of the appropriate PowerPoint lectures. It is highly suggested you stay ahead bringing the “next” PowerPoint as well. You do not need to bring your textbook each day, but be aware on which days you should bring it.

LAPTOPS/NETBOOKS: You are welcome to bring your laptops or equivalent to class for lectures and labs instead of printing materials out. That said, you are still required to bring the lab worksheets and any other materials that need to be submitted as hard copies. And know the penalties for using these items for non-academic purposes.

ELECTRONICALLY AMPLIFIED SOUNDS: This includes pagers, cell phones, Walkmans, Watchmans, MP3's, iPhones, Blackberries, etc. They are to be turned off to the silent mode in class, i.e. no vibration mode.. This now applies to wearing ear-pieces/phones regardless of whether it is on. If one goes off in class, you will lose five pts from your overall grade/score. For each successive infraction by an individual, points lost will double. A worse sin is to answer your cell phone! That will re-double whatever loss you just incurred, AND you will not be able to return to class until you have met with the Campus Disciplinarian. If you are caught reading or sending email or text messages, you will lose 5 pts. Subsequent infractions will double the points lost.
