14 DECADE

1840-1850
1848- Gold discovered in California. This event changed Asian immigration massively because it made many people across the sea to come to America in search of gold. This meant that if they found gold they would be very rich and have a good life. Many people found gold but at the same time many people did not find anything. This is where the miners especially from China, who did not find gold they just stayed in the U.S. to have an opportunity to have a good life. This made many people to believe that it was a good decision to immigrate to the U.S. So this made the Asian immigrants to move to the U.S.
1850-1860
1852- China is defeated by the British Empire in the first opium war, resulting in the Treaty of Nanjing where China is forced to cede the island of Hong Kong. This event effected the Asian immigrants because it made many of them flee their home. They left because they did not want to live under the British Empire. Many people just moved cities, but some people left their country. They came to the U.S. because they heard that the U.S. has a good economy. So because of this event the Asian immigration rate was increased.
1860-1870
1868- Gave grade advantages to American merchants and shippers hungry for the China market, had guaranteed Chinese the right of immigrations. This event effected the Asian immigrants because it let many Chinese immigrants believe they can achieve a better life in the U.S. The American merchants who were who wanted the Chinese items made them buy so much that the Chinese ran out. This made the U.S. government give a purpose so there could be more Chinese immigration and the markets could be full.
1870-1880
1880- Gave the U.S. the right to regulate, limit, or suspend Chinese immigration, but not to prohibit it absolutely. This event effected the Asian immigrants because now the U.S. government had the right to stop the Chinese immigrants which had a high rate of the Asian immigrants. This made the Chinese immigrants feel that they were not wanted in the U.S. so many of the Chinese did not go to the U.S.

1880-1890
1882- Chinese Exclusion Act was passed which meant that laborers were not allowed to enter the country for 10 years. This event effected the Asian immigrants because it suspended the Chinese immigrants from immigrating to the U.S. This event dropped the Asian immigration rate rapidly.

1890-1900
1892- Geary Act was passed which meant that the Chinese Exclusion Act and the Scott Act were extended. This event effected the Asian immigrants because it increased the Chinese Exclusion act which was only meant for 10 years. This caused the Chinese believe there could no longer be a future in the U.S. so many stopped trying to come to the U.S.

1900-1910
1907-1908 The Gentleman’s Agreement was passed between the U.S. and Japan which did not let any Japanese laborers to enter the U.S. This event effected the Asian immigrants because like the Chinese Exclusion Act it suspended the labor immigrants who wanted a new future to come to the U.S. This event caused the immigration rate from Asia drop even lower which made people believe that the U.S. was no longer following the constitution.

1910-1920
1917- Asiatic Barred Zone was created which did not allow “homosexuals”, “idiots”, “feeble-minded persons”, "criminals", “epileptics”, “insane persons”, alcoholics, “professional beggars”, all persons “mentally or physically defective.” This meant anyone who were considered these minorities in Asia were not allowed to enter the United States. This event effected the Asian immigration because it dropped the rate rapidly. Many people who wanted a new future because their old life was not the way they wanted could
